From the moment he walks out in front of the audience, you can tell that you are in for a treat. Who is this man dressed like some kind of gangster, who sashays coolly towards the microphone? The answer is The Senator, Simon Bartlett, the most dynamic performer to have entered the venue in some time. A master of creating the mood, this man takes his audience to the Speakeasies of the 3O's, the Ballrooms of the 4O's, and the Vegas of the 5O's. Simon Bartlett is an entertainer in the vein of Louis, whether it be Louis Prima, Louis Jordan or Louis Armstrong.
Trained at the Sydney Conservatorium (with a scholarship for further training in London), Simon Bartlett has played with the Sydney Orchestra, Don Burrows, James Morrison and is a featured member of John Morrison's Swing City. He is also a regular performer at 'Soup Plus', Australia's longest running Jazz Venue. Simon plays and sings the songs, which haven't been sung for a long time, songs that leave the audience wondering why it's been such a long time since they heard them. Favourites such as Just a Gigolo, Minnie the Moocher, and Mack the Knife. Songs that were built to last. The Senator has performed and recorded both here and abroad, in Singapore, New Guinea, and Christmas Island. He has also made numerous guest appearances on television and Radio, and supported some of the leading lights of Australian Entertainment.
