Su Cruickshank started singing in London in what she calls "sleazy jazz dives" and then flew from obscurity to oblivion in Newcastle, Australia where she sang rock and roll and jazz and joined the Hunter Valley Theatre Company for Music Hall and The Threepenny Opera. Since 1979 Su's career has encompassed nearly every facet of the performing arts, from being a regular guest on the nation's top rated variety shows as a singer and comedian to a featured actress in films, a radio presenter, guest roles in both dramatic and comedic in TV soaps plus numerous major roles in TV commercials. Su was a featured guest on The Midday Show with Ray Martin and is in constant demand to guest on TV variety shows. The Daily Telegraph bestowed on her the title "Queen of Jazz" after her masterly hosting of the "Midsummer Jazz in the Domain" concert which attracted over 60,000 enthusiastic fans. On the drama scene Su has had a busy and varied career. One of her successes was as the mother of Yahoo Serious in Young Einstein. Other roles include regular appearances on ABC TV's successful drama G.P. and a role in the movie Riders on the Storm. Two series of Su's talk program In Company with Su Cruickshank were screened on ABC TV during 1993-4. More recently she has teamed up with the brilliant Phil Scott to write the cabaret show Getting Stuffed. She is a highly sought after speaker and has appeared in several celebrity debate panels, including the ABC's World Series Debating. Su was also a guest panellist on Good News Week. Su has appeared recently on the Murdoch Magazine's new FCTV, shot in the offices of the magazine, and also appeared during the Adelaide Festival at the CREATE Conference, joining other entertainers in a debate about industry funding. Su teams with Max Lambert, the MD of the Olympic opening and closing ceremonies, to present a cabaret season at The Green Room at Cafe Nine. This year it is 'An Interrupted Melody...Excuse me, I'm Sorry'. Su is fluent in Yugoslav. Su has an understanding of French, Russian and Italian. Su is a Metzo soprano with a 4 octave range. Su is a standup comic. An inventive and intelligent performer, Su has an ability for quick witted ad-libs; performing speaking engagements, hosting special events and is a major supporter of several charities as well as a fabulous jazz singer.
